Siddapura: In view of the landslide on State Highway-52 at Hulikal Ghat (Balebare Ghat), which connects Thirthahalli and Kundapura, the Shimoga district administration has issued an order temporarily banning the movement of all types of vehicles as a precautionary measure.
A landslide had occurred at a hairpin curve on this route during the last rainy season. Retaining wall construction and road widening work were underway to repair this. However, on April 9, another landslide occurred from a height of about 12 meters at the construction site, and cracks appeared in the concrete road. Since the road is not fit for travel in the interest of passenger safety, it has been closed until the work is completed.
Alternative Routes:
Heavy vehicles going from Thirthahalli to Kundapura: Thirthahalli - Rave - Kanugodu - Nagara - Kollur - Kundapura road.
Heavy vehicles going via Yaduru/Mastikatte: Thirthahalli - Kanugodu - Nagara - Kollur - Kundapura road.
Heavy vehicles going from Shimoga/Sagara via Hosanagara: Shimoga - Honnavar NH - Honnavar - Bhatkal - Byndoor - Kundapura road.
This change will come into effect immediately and will remain in force until the work is completed. Shimoga Additional District Collector Abhishek V. has requested the public to cooperate.
