Shivamogga: The calf inside the womb of the hippopotamus, which caused the death of Dr. Samiksha Reddy at the Tyavarekoppa Zoo, has died. The calf died inside the womb of the pregnant hippopotamus named Hamsini.
The Zoo's Executive Director, Amrakshar, confirmed that the calf died due to an infection inside the hippopotamus's stomach.
Strict surveillance was maintained on the pregnant hippopotamus that attacked Samiksha. Medical officers from Bannerghatta and Mysuru Zoo had arrived to monitor the animal. A team of doctors had been treating the hippopotamus for the past two days, darting the pregnant animal to collect various samples.
The hippopotamus had stopped eating three days before the attack on Samiksha and has not consumed food for the last 20 days.
On March 20, the hippopotamus attacked Dr. Samiksha. Dr. Samiksha passed away at the hospital after failing to respond to treatment.
