The magazine praised Hoi An as a “living heritage” that impresses visitors with lantern-lined alleyways, east-west architecture and aged buildings full of history.

Most attractions, cafes, restaurants, and craft shops are close together. The experience is also enhanced by local foods like banh mi, tall mop (thick noodles with pork) and white rose dumplings.

Taylor McIntyre, editor of Travel + Leisuresaid Hoi An feels “like a window into the past” with its colorful houses, temples and silk lanterns.

Beyond the old town, visitors can explore nearby areas. Easy travel between Hoi An and Da Nang is an advantage.

The list also features Bruges (Belgium), Essaouira and Chefchaouen (Morocco), Calabria (Italy), Paros (Greece), Cambridge (England), Belgrade (Serbia), and Cascais (Portugal).
