CSK has jumped in the points table by winning the 22nd match of IPL 2026. Now the team has reached 8th position with 2 wins out of 5 matches and a net run rate of -0.846. Earlier Chennai was at 9th position. Now Mumbai Indians have slipped to 9th position. The condition of KKR is even worse. The team has lost 4 out of 5 matches, while one match was washed out due to rain. For this reason, Kolkata is at the bottom 10th position in the points table with a net run rate of -1.383.
CSK innings
After losing the toss, CSK was asked to bat first. Chennai got off to a good start when they came to bat. In the powerplay, the team scored 72 runs after losing 2 wickets. After this, the team’s pace slowed down a bit in the middle overs. Between 7 and 15 overs, Chennai added only 70 runs, although only 1 wicket fell during this period. Then the team made a comeback in the death overs and scored 50 runs after losing 2 wickets between 16 and 20 overs. Due to this, CSK made a good score of 192 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.
For CSK, Sanju Samson scored the highest score of 48 runs. Apart from him, Dewald Brevis scored 41 runs and Ayush Mhatre contributed 38 runs. Talking about Kolkata’s bowling, Karthik Tyagi took 2 wickets. Rest Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy and Vaibhav Arora got 1 success each.
KKR innings
Kolkata had a very slow and poor start. In the powerplay itself, the team lost 2 wickets and scored only 36 runs. After this, Chennai bowlers continued to dominate the middle overs also. Between 7 and 15 overs, KKR scored 71 runs but also lost 4 wickets during this period. The team could not do anything special even in the death overs. 53 runs were scored between 16 and 20 overs. In the end, KKR could score only 160 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. This was the reason why CSK easily won this match by 32 runs.
Ramandeep Singh scored the maximum 35 runs for KKR. Whereas Rovman Powell returned unbeaten after scoring 31 runs. Apart from these, captain Ajinkya Rahane also could not do anything special and scored 28 runs. On the other hand, Chennai bowlers looked dominant in the entire match. Noor Ahmed bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets. Anshul Kamboj also took 2 wickets. Whereas Khalil Ahmed and Akil Hussain got 1-1 success.
KKR playoff scenario
In IPL 2026, each team has to play 14 matches before the playoffs. Generally 8 wins i.e. 16 points are considered necessary to reach the playoffs. Now talking about KKR, the team has played its first 5 matches and has not won a single match. That means now Kolkata has only 9 matches left.
In such a situation, if KKR wants to reach the playoffs, it will have to do wonders now. If we understand in simple language then the team will have to win almost all the matches. It is very important to win at least 7 out of 9 matches. If KKR loses even 3 matches from here, it will be almost impossible for it to reach the playoffs. Meaning now every match has become like ‘do or die’ for them.
