One Downton Abbey star is trading country house living for big city bloodshed.
Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens has been cast as a deranged serial killer in the highly-anticipated second season of Dexter: Resurrection.
The celebrated British star, who earned his breakthrough role portraying Matthew Crawley across the first three seasons of Julian Fellowes' hit period drama, becomes the second actor confirmed for the next instalment of the beloved continuation.
Season one saw the return of murderous serial killer hunter Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C Hall) just weeks after being shot by his own son, Harrison (Jack Alcott).
Waking from a coma to find Harrison has disappeared, he heads to New York City, where Miami Metro's Angel Batista (David Zayas) promptly turns up with a string of questions.
He also crossed paths with ruthless venture capitalist Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage) and his right-hand woman Charley (Uma Thurman), the latter of whom is set to reappear after fleeing the city during season one.
The forthcoming series previously announced that Succession star Brian Cox will portray the twisted and elusive killer Don Framt, known as the New York Ripper, who has stepped back from his murderous ways but occupies himself taunting his survivors.
Stevens will play Owen Stark, the Five Borough Killer and the secondary main antagonist of the season. Owen appears to draw inspiration from the Zodiac killer as he taunts police with phone calls threatening to murder innocent people, ultimately terrorising the city by making good on his menacing promises.
A more detailed synopsis of season two remains closely guarded. Clyde Phillips is returning as showrunner.
The first season of Dexter: Resurrection, which aired on Paramount+ with Showtime, proved hugely popular amongst devotees of the long-running crime drama, which originally ran from 2006-2013.
One IMDb user raved: "I knew it was going to have the best comeback ever.. I have goosebumps, this is my childhood show, my first tv show ever, it's in my blood.. it's so good.
"It's like you just reunited with your best friend after a long time of not seeing each other. I'm already used to the writing, the creators of the show are just pure geniuses.. they never disappointed, this show is the best show on television, I love it, we are back, TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!"
"The original Dexter was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best shows ever created," someone else said. "It's a thrilling, one of a kind TV show that will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire series.
"Now, we're back with Dexter: Resurrection and I love it. I can't get enough of Dexter. I've loved having Dexter back on my tv and this show is really good overall. It's definitely worth watching."
