Ram Gopal Yadav has targeted the Central Government while giving a big political statement on the issue of women’s reservation and delimitation. He said that considering the kind of attitude of the government, it is natural for the opposition to protest.
Lucknow: In India, political tension regarding women’s reservation bill and delimitation is continuously increasing. Before discussing this issue in the Parliament, a strategy meeting is going to be held between the opposition parties, but before that, the statement of senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ram Gopal Yadav has further heated up the political atmosphere.
Ram Gopal Yadav’s sharp statement
Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav has made serious allegations against the Central Government regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill and the delimitation process. He said the government’s current attitude makes protests “natural”. According to him, the amendments made in the Women’s Reservation Bill raise questions on the “policy and intentions” of the government.

Questions on delimitation and census
In his statement, Ram Gopal Yadav also raised objections regarding delimitation and census. They said that:
-
- census should be done first
-
- After that delimitation should be done
-
- Then the electoral process should be decided
He alleged that the government plans to influence the process for political gains.
Akhilesh Yadav’s support and attack
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also targeted the central government on this issue. He said the party supports women’s reservation, but disagrees with its manner of implementation and “political intentions”. Akhilesh Yadav alleged that:
-
- Government is silent on representation of backward class women
-
- There may be political reasons behind the delay in census
-
- The process of delimitation can be influenced for electoral gain.
-
- Tension increases before INDIA alliance meeting
An important meeting of the opposition alliance INDIA Bloc is going to be held on this issue, in which many big leaders will participate. Even before the meeting, differences and strategic discussions have intensified between different parties. In this meeting to be held at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, women’s reservation, delimitation and upcoming Parliament strategy will be discussed.
Discussion on the Women’s Reservation Bill proposed by the government is about to begin in Parliament. The aim of this bill is to give 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, but there is controversy over the manner of its implementation. The opposition alleges that:
-
- Political equations can be changed through delimitation of seats.
-
- The existing representation structure may be affected
-
- Implementation timeline and process unclear
While the government is calling this bill a historic step towards women’s empowerment, the opposition is linking it to political strategy. The government says that this step is a major improvement in the direction of implementing the long-pending women’s reservation, while the opposition is linking it to “electoral and administrative restructuring”.
