Why is BJP making leaders from other parties apart from its own leaders as CM? understand

After a long wait in Bihar, Bharatiya Janata Party has finally succeeded in making its Chief Minister. Yesterday i.e. on Wednesday, March 15, Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office to Samrat Chaudhary as the Chief Minister at Bihar Raj Bhavan. With the coronation of the new Chief Minister, the political journey of Samrat Chaudhary is once again in the news. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, while congratulating him, reminded him of his old relationship with socialist ideology.

Tejashwi Yadav congratulated Samrat Chaudhary by calling him a ‘socialist by nature’. Samrat Chaudhary was earlier in Lalu Yadav’s party and both his parents were part of Lalu Yadav’s party. Both came to RJD from Samata Party. Samrat Choudhary has come to BJP after passing through RJD, JDU and HAM and finally now he has been made the CM of the state. While in other states BJP emphasized on the stereotypical leaders of its party and those working in the organization, in Bihar why did it make Samrat Choudhary, who came from different parties, as the CM, this question is in everyone’s mind.

Why made CM?

Making Samrat Chaudhary the CM is not just a decision of BJP but of the NDA alliance. After the coronation of Samrat on the post of CM, former Deputy CM of Bihar Vijay Kumar Sinha said, ‘We have proposed the name of Samrat Choudhary ji to pursue coalition politics. This moment has come today because of our sacrifice, penance and sacrifice. Vijay Sinha is a person of Sangh’s ideology but when the party got the opportunity to choose him as CM, the party chose Samrat Chaudhary from RJD, JDU instead of a Sangh person. Its pain is visible among the party workers.

Now on this decision of BJP, people who keep an eye on Bihar politics say that this is more a decision of Nitish Kumar than BJP. Experts believe that Samrat Choudhary has become CM due to the wish of Nitish Kumar. According to a BBC report, JDU leader Lalan Singh met PM Modi and explained to him that BJP has invested a lot in a Kushwaha leader. In such a situation, if she does not make Samrat Chaudhary the CM, then a wrong message will be sent to the Kurmi, Koeri and Kushwaha communities. That means, along with Nitish’s blessings, Samrat Chaudhary’s caste also played an important role in his selection. However, most political experts believe that BJP has not been able to do what it wants.

Made Himanta CM?

This is not the first time that BJP has made a leader from another party the CM. Even before this, there have been such examples in many states, the most popular name of which is that of Assam CM Himanta Bishwa Sarma. Himanta was a strong leader of Congress and was also a contender for the post of CM. Due to not getting the post of CM, he left Congress and joined BJP and today he has completed five years as CM. By joining Bharatiya Janata Party after 2014, Himanta played an important role in BJP’s victory. However, at that time he had to be content with the ministerial post, but after waiting for five years, he got what he had been waiting for for a long time.

Political experts believe that choosing Himanta as CM in 2021 was part of BJP’s strategy. Himanta was a staunch opponent of Gaurav Gogoi and was speaking the language of BJP outspokenly. He had proved that he had every capability that BJP needed in a strong leader. Himanta became the first choice of the central leadership of BJP and was elected CM of Assam in 2021.

Which other leaders were made CM and why?

Apart from these two names, there are many such names in the recent history of BJP who started their career with other political ideas or parties. N Biren Singh, who was a minister in the Congress government of Manipur, joined BJP in 2016 and after just a year, BJP made him the CM after winning the elections. His background was neither of Sangh nor of BJP. After 2014, BJP gave a message to the leaders that if they have the ability then they can become the CM of BJP even after coming from other parties. Even in 2022, BJP made N Biren Singh the CM. However, after the violence he resigned from the post of CM.

After this BJP made Yumnam Khemchand the CM. His political background is also not of BJP. He also joined BJP in 2013 and today sits on the chair of CM of Manipur. The strategy behind this is believed to be that of BJP, which is not shying away from giving opportunity to leaders from other parties to increase its base.

In another north-eastern state, Arunachal Pradesh, BJP has also made leaders from other parties the CM. Pema Khandu joined BJP in 2016 and BJP made her the CM. After this, in 2019 and also in 2024, BJP selected him as the CM. Earlier, BJP had also handed over the command of power to Gagomp Apang. Apart from this, Manik Shah of Tripura and former CM of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai were also brought from other parties and made to sit on the CM’s chair.
