Renault Triber to get turbo petrol, factory dual-cylinder CNG

New Delhi:Renault is addressing two long-standing complaints with the Triber, a lack of power and compromised boot space in CNG guise. In a major update to its budget 7-seater, the brand is set to introduce a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit and also bring the much-awaited 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, giving the Triber a much-needed boost in both performance and practicality.

The biggest talking point is the new dual-cylinder CNG setup, which will be neatly packaged under the boot floor instead of taking up space in the boot like the current dealer-fit unit. This adds to the Triber’s family-friendly practicality while offering lower running costs, and is a huge win for buyers who use the MPV for long-distance family trips. Renault is expected to launch this version around the festive season in September-October

Renault Triber’s turbo petrol

Even more important is the arrival of the HR10 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, that Triber borrows from the Kiger. This unit has been missing from the Triber portfolio for years despite strong customer demand, and its inclusion should significantly improve drivability, especially with a full load of passengers. More interestingly, Renault plans to pair this stronger turbo engine with the new CNG option, effectively combining better performance with improved fuel economy.

The upgrade has been made possible by revisions to Renault’s compact architecture, now reworked as the RGEP platform. This makes for better chassis integration for the underfloor CNG tanks and the turbo motor. This also indicates at a broader powertrain upgrade strategy for Renault’s entry-level line-up, with the Kiger expected to receive the same turbo-CNG treatment next.

For the Triber, this update could be a game-changer. It remains one of India’s most affordable and practical 7-seaters, and with turbo power plus factory CNG efficiency, Renault may have finally given it the rounded package buyers have been asking for.
