AIMIM councilor Sahar Sheikh, surrounded by allegations of fake caste certificate, is once again in the news. Sheikh, who was said to be ‘out of touch’ in recent times, was seen enjoying an IPL match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Thursday (April 17). During this time, he also shared a video on social media, due to which the controversy regarding fake caste certificate investigation has intensified.
It is being told that Sheikh had come to watch the match played between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. In the viral video, she is seen posing in front of the camera wearing a mask and cap. This development has come to light at a time when investigation is going on at the political and administrative level regarding the allegations against him.
Sahar Shaikh is accused of allegedly using fake caste certificate to contest Thane Municipal Corporation elections. This case has created a stir in political circles. Sheikh’s name has also cropped up in the past as a close associate of Jitendra Awhad.
According to official sources, a complaint in this regard was lodged by Siddiqui Farha Sabb Ahmed before the Thane Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), demanding an inquiry into the validity of Shaikh’s caste certificate. Several alleged irregularities have been pointed out during the investigation.
The investigating agencies have highlighted jurisdictional discrepancies in the certificate. It is alleged that despite being a resident of Thane, Shaikh obtained the certificate from Mumbai City Collectorate. Apart from this, procedural deficiencies like lack of header of Maharashtra Government and signature of SDO have also come to light in the document.
Discrepancies in documents, investigation ongoing
The investigation has also found inconsistencies in the documents of his father Yunus Shaikh. It has also been claimed that a caste certificate issued from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh may have been used in the application process. Officials have also termed the absence of ‘Sample 10’ document required under the ‘Displacement Act, 2000’ as a serious issue.
During the hearing of the case on March 18, Younis Shaikh did not appear citing health reasons, although his lawyers submitted documents. The next hearing was held on March 23 and now the final decision will depend on the investigation report.
If the allegations are proved, Sahar Sheikh may be disqualified from the post of councilor and legal action is also possible against him. At present he has not issued any official statement on this entire matter and is out of contact.
