Lucknow, 18 April. After the recent developments in Noida and Greater Noida, the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh made a major intervention and decided to revise the minimum wage rates. The Governor of the state has also issued a notification giving her approval to the government’s decision, after which the new minimum wage rates set by the government have become legally effective. Now it will be bindingly implemented in the entire state.
Pay rates determined in three categories
It is noteworthy that after the incident, to end the deadlock between workers and employers regarding wage hike and to control the situation, the state government had constituted a high level committee, which in its recommendation has fixed the wage rates in three categories. Based on this, the state government has divided the state into three categories by implementing new wage rates as interim relief, so that a balanced system can be ensured as per the regional conditions and cost of living.
On the basis of the recommendations of the committee, the state was divided into three categories. Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad were placed in the first category, where the cost of living is relatively high. Here the monthly minimum wage has been fixed at Rs 13,690 for unskilled workers, Rs 15,059 for semi-skilled workers and Rs 16,868 for skilled workers.
How much salary in second class?
Other municipal corporation districts are included in the second category, where the wage has been fixed at Rs 13,006 for unskilled workers, Rs 14,306 for semi-skilled and Rs 16,025 for skilled workers. The remaining districts have been kept in the third category, where the wage rates have been fixed at Rs 12,356, Rs 13,590 and Rs 15,224 respectively. All these rates include Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) along with the basic pay.
Strict action will be taken against irregularities
In fact, the proposed wage revisions could not be implemented in the years 2019 and 2024, due to which this gap increased. Now this step has been taken keeping in mind the pending revision based on Consumer Price Index. The government says that this decision is not only to provide relief to the workers, but is also necessary to maintain industrial peace and keep the production cycle smooth. It has also been made clear that after the implementation of the new rates, strict action will be taken against any cut or irregularity in the interests of the workers.
Who was included in the committee?
This decision was taken at a time when there was a deadlock between workers and employers over wage hike and industrial activities started getting affected. Workers said rising inflation and rent pressure have made living difficult, while employers cited global economic pressures, rising costs and supply chain disruptions.
To control the situation, the state government formed a high-level committee, whose chairmanship was handed over to Infrastructure and Industrial Development Commissioner Deepak Kumar. In this, Additional Chief Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, Principal Secretary, Labor and Employment Department and Labor Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh were nominated as member and member secretary respectively. The committee also included five representatives of workers and three representatives of employers. The committee visited the spot and discussed with workers, industry representatives and other stakeholders and prepared a proposal for a balanced solution.
