The festive doli of Mother Ganga was taken towards Gangotri Dham in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. On April 18, the people of Mukhwa village sent off the doli of Mother Ganga by covering it in a cloth after the ritual worship. Many people participated in this festival and worshiped Mother Ganga with full devotion. According to religious belief, Gangotri Dham is the main place of Mother Ganga, hence every year the palanquin of Mother Ganga is taken to Gangotri Dham a day before the beginning of Chardham Yatra.
The Utsav Doli of Mother Ganga was sent off from Mukhwa village at the auspicious time of 12.15 pm on 18th April. For information, let us tell you that devotees travel on foot carrying the doli of Mother Ganga on their shoulders. Similarly, this year too, devotees will take the doli of Mother Ganga to Bhairon Valley through the dense forests of Mukhwa area till night, where the doli will be kept for rest overnight in the Bhairon temple. Next morning all the devotees will leave for Gangotri Dham. The carriage of Mother Ganga will reach Gangotri Dham at around 12.15 pm, after which the doors of the temple will be opened for six months. Now the question arises that what is the connection of this Doli festival with Chardham Yatra.
Connection with Chardham Yatra
Every year in Uttarakhand, the doors of Chardham Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are closed during the winter season. At that time, the idols of the Gods and Goddesses of these Dhams are taken to other places so that the devotees can worship them even in winter. Similarly, the idol of Mother Ganga is brought to Mukhwa village.
According to religious belief, Mukhwa village is considered to be the maternal home of Mother Ganga. A day before the Chardham Yatra begins, the carriage of Mother Ganga leaves for Gangotri from its maternal home i.e. Mukhwa.
When will the doors open?
Chardham Yatra will start in Uttarakhand from 19th April. First of all, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. Both these Dhams will open on 19th April. Whereas the doors of Kedarnath Dham will be opened on 22nd April and the doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened on 23rd April. For information, let us tell you that the doors of these four Dhams will be closed on around 10th November.
