digital desk- Amidst the election atmosphere in Tamil Nadu, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations against the Central Government. Addressing a public meeting held at Ponneri in Tiruvallur district on Saturday (April 18), he claimed that the recently introduced bill in Parliament was introduced in the name of women’s reservation, but the real objective behind it was to weaken the political power of Tamil Nadu through delimitation. Rahul Gandhi said the move is not limited to just one state but is a planned strategy to reduce the representation of southern and smaller states. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh were targeting the identity of the states and their cultural heritage.

Even though I was not born in Tamil Nadu, I have an emotional connection with the people here – Rahul Gandhi

In his address, Rahul Gandhi showed emotional connect and said that even though he was not born in Tamil Nadu, he feels connected to the people here. Referring to his father Rajiv Gandhi, he said that he gave everything for Tamil Nadu. He stressed that India is a union of states and every state has every right to maintain its own language, culture and identity. Rahul Gandhi alleged that the central government is trying to weaken Tamil language and culture. He said that suppressing the identity of any state is against the spirit of the Constitution. He also said that BJP wants to control Tamil Nadu from Delhi and wants a leadership that works at the behest of the Centre.

What was presented yesterday has been passed in 2023

Regarding the bill, he said, “Yesterday a new bill was brought in the Parliament. It was named women’s reservation, whereas such a law had already been passed in 2023. Actually, the hidden agenda behind it was delimitation, so that the share of Tamil Nadu and other southern states in the Parliament could be reduced.” He claimed that the opposition, understanding this strategy, defeated this bill in Parliament. Attacking the working style of the central government, Rahul Gandhi said that the thinking of “one nation, one leader, one language” is an attack on India’s diversity and Constitution. He said that the ‘India’ alliance will oppose any such attempts at centralization and will stand to protect the rights of the states.

Elections will be held on 23 April

Appealing to the public, he said that Tamil Nadu will have to decide its own future and it is necessary to unite to save the democratic structure of the country. He assured that Congress and its allies are committed to protecting the language, culture and rights of the state. It is noteworthy that in Tamil Nadu, voting is to be held in a single phase on April 23 and counting of votes will take place on May 4. The main contest in this election is believed to be between the DMK led alliance and the AIADMK-BJP alliance. At the same time, actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party is also trying to make the contest triangular by entering the electoral fray.
