BH Series Number Plate Benefits: “One Nation, One Number” Launched under the vision of ‘BH Series’ (Bharat Series) is getting tremendous response in Pune, Maharashtra. A total of 7,394 vehicles were registered under this scheme in Pune RTO during the financial year 2025-26, which is much more than last year. What is the biggest feature of BH series?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways launched the BH Series in 2021. Its main objective is that if a person moves from one state to another for job or other reasons, he does not have to transfer the registration of his vehicle again and again.

Generally the rule is that a vehicle can be driven in any state only for a maximum of 12 months. After this it becomes necessary to re-register in the same state. But BH series eliminates this hassle completely.

How are people’s response?

‘Motor Vehicles Act, 1988’ Vehicle registration is mandatory under BH Series, but vehicle owners with BH Series number do not need to obtain separate permission to move from one state to another. This is the reason why this scheme is becoming increasingly popular among the people.

7,394 people opted for this series during the last financial year in Pune. Of these, 4,637 people took BH series numbers for their cars and 2,757 people took BH series numbers for two-wheelers. This figure is a clear indication that people are now showing more interest in adopting this facility.

What is BH series number plate like?

The format of number plates available under BH Series is slightly different. It consists of the last two digits of the registration year, followed by the BH code, then the unique number of the vehicle and finally a letter from A to Z. For example: 23 BH 1234 A This is a simple and uniform system, which makes vehicle identification easy across the country.

BH series is no less than a boon for those people whose jobs keep getting transferred again and again. Now they will not need to get new registration of the vehicle in every state. This is the reason why its popularity is increasing rapidly in cities like Pune.
