Priyanka Gandhi’s Press Conference: The politics of the country has heated up after the Central Government did not pass the Constitution Amendment (131st Amendment) Bill to women’s reservation. BJP and its allies are accusing the opposition parties of being anti-women. Meanwhile, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi held a press conference on women’s reservation on Saturday. During this, he described the bill not being passed in the Lok Sabha as a big victory for democracy. With this he demanded implementation of the old Women’s Reservation Bill.

Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi said in the press conference, “What happened yesterday was a huge victory for democracy. The government’s conspiracy to change the federal structure and weaken democracy failed and was stopped. It was a victory for the Constitution, a victory for the country, and a victory for the unity of the opposition; and this was clearly visible on the faces of the leaders of the ruling party… I think this is a conspiracy, so that they can somehow remain in power… So, to achieve this, they are planning how to use women to remain in power forever… They thought that if this bill is passed, they will win. And if it is not passed, they will prove themselves as ‘saviors’ of women by branding other parties as ‘anti-women’… We know that it is not so easy to be a savior of women…”

He said, “This was not about the Women’s Reservation Bill. This was to delimitation. The Modi government had to do the delimitation on such a basis that it would not need to look at the caste census data and would have complete freedom to do whatever it wants. In such a situation, it was not possible for the opposition to support the Modi government. The entire country has seen how the Modi government is defeated when the opposition is united.”

Priyanka Gandhi further said, “This is a ‘black day’ for them (Centre) because for the first time they have got a strong blow – which they deserved. Today, the problems of women are increasing rapidly. Their struggle is also increasing. Women are not stupid. They are seeing everything. Now all that PR and media noise is not going to help. If you really want to do something concrete, bring back the bill which will be passed in 2023. It was passed unanimously and if it needs some minor changes to be implemented, then give it to the women right now, but do not try to mislead them by linking them with other things.
