With the conclusion of the 270th session of the Rajya Sabha, the budget session of the Parliament also ended on Saturday. In this budget session of Parliament that ended on Saturday, the work of Rajya Sabha went on smoothly and the productivity of the session was more than 100 percent. During the entire session, Rajya Sabha worked for a total of 157 hours and 40 minutes.

A total of 117 questions were asked in the budget that ended on Saturday, while 446 zero hour mentions were made in the House. Whereas 207 special mentions were presented by Rajya Sabha MPs. At the conclusion of the budget session, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan expressed gratitude to the MPs of all parties.

He told the MPs that you enriched the proceedings of the House with your valuable ideas. It is noteworthy that the budget session has special importance among all the three sessions of the Parliament. It is not only the longest session, but also plays the most important role in deciding the development direction of the country.

The budget passed, policies approved and priorities set in this session directly impact the lives of every citizen of the country. The current budget session is the longest session of the year. The budget session started with the motion of thanks on the President’s address, which was discussed in detail in the House for four days.

79 members of Rajya Sabha participated enthusiastically in this detailed discussion. After this, there was a serious and extensive discussion on the Union Budget 2026-27 for four days, in which 97 members participated.

Besides, the activities of two important ministries of the government were also meaningfully discussed. The House also took note of the statements made by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on the India-US bilateral trade agreement and by the External Affairs Minister on the situation in West Asia.

The Chairman said that the statement given by the Prime Minister on the current situation in West Asia and the challenges posed by it, especially the energy needs of India, clarified the situation and underlined the need for national unity.

At the conclusion of the session, the Chairman said, I am happy to say that 50 private member’s bills were presented during this session. On 94 occasions, Honorable Members expressed their views in the 12 regional languages ​​included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

In this session, Harivansh Narayan Singh was also elected as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha for the third time. Leaders and members of all parties including the Prime Minister congratulated him.

The Chairman said that he expresses his gratitude to the Deputy Chairman, the members of the Deputy Chairman’s Panel, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, leaders of various parties and all the members for their cooperation in the smooth functioning of the House.

Along with this, the Chairman told the members of Rajya Sabha that he once again requests all the members that Rule 267 should be used only in necessary circumstances, so that the valuable time of the House is not wasted. ​
