New Delhi. A big decision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may come soon. There is every possibility of Ajit Agarkar getting extension as Chief Selector. According to sources, the board is now directly eyeing the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 and keeping this in mind, the decision to give extension to Agarkar is considered almost certain. The board is considering Agarkar’s tenure as very successful. During his time, Team India continuously performed brilliantly in big tournaments. India won big titles like ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Apart from this, the team had traveled till the final of ICC World Cup 2023.

Sources also said that during Agarkar’s tenure, a smooth transition has been seen in Team India. Along with creating a balance between senior and young players, many big and bold decisions were taken in the selection, which gave a new direction to the team. The board believes that Agarkar’s strategy and selection policy have played a major role in the team’s ‘fearless approach’ and consistent success. This is the reason why BCCI is now fully ready to extend his contract. If this decision takes official form, then till the 2027 World Cup, the command of the selection policy of Team India will once again remain in the hands of Ajit Agarkar. Talking about Agarkar, he became the Chief Selector of the Indian team in July 2023. He also played Test, ODI and T20 cricket for India.
