Chennai: French automobile company Renault is working on a two-platform strategy to cater to the sub-Rs 10 lakh price segment in India. Apart from this, the company is also introducing a flexible structure for vehicles longer than four meters to expand its product portfolio to seven by 2030.
Stephane DeBlaze, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Renault Group in India, said that the company had earlier introduced models like Kwid, Kiger and Triber on its CMFA platform. Now it is changing to a new RGEP (Renault Group Entry Platform). Its aim is to meet consumer expectations regarding factory-installed CNG models, new powertrains and next-generation digital and electronic architecture.
On the other hand, to drive scale and electrification, the company is using the new RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform), which will drive the next phase of its growth in India and lay the foundation for the company’s electrification path. He further said that the recently launched Duster SUV is the first vehicle in this category. Many more products will come after this. “RGEP is designed to deliver good value for vehicles priced under Rs 10 lakh and remain competitive even after 2030,” DeBlaze said.
He further said that upgraded versions of Kiger and Triber will be introduced on the new platform in the coming months. The company, which is targeting a five per cent share in India, hopes that RGMP will help the company expand into new and high-value areas. He told that by 2030 four products will be made on this platform. These will also include Duster and Bridger. Regarding the shift towards e-vehicles, DeBlaze said that from 2026 the company will expand rapidly in this direction with Bridger. The Bridger SUV, which is less than four meters long, will play an important role in this journey.
