Lionel Messi nets brace as Inter Miami win in MLS – WATCH

New Delhi: Lionel Messi’s double pulled Inter Miami to a 3-2 win over Colorado Rapids in a Major League Soccer game in Denver on Saturday.

Messi convereted an 18th minute penalty to put Miami ahead before German Berterame doubled their lead at the stroke of half time.

But Colorado levelled back through Rafael Navarrao (58) and Darren Yapi (62) before Messi curled in te match winner on 79 minutes.

It was Miami’s new interim coach Guillermo Hoyos’ first match in charge as they win in front of a crowd of 75,824 — the second-highest attendance in MLS history.

Miami played for the first game since Javier Mascherano left as coach on Tuesday, only four months after helping them to their first MLS Cup title.

Hoyos was took over temporarily after moving over from his current role of sporting director, having worked with Messi earlier at FC Barcelona’s La Masia academy.

“It has been a beautiful experience because there are players of immense quality here including the greatest player in history,” Hoyos said after their win.

“I was excited on many occasions, because football truly is all about that emotion and passion.

“The best coach in the world is actually out there on the pitch. We coaches are merely guides,” he said when asked how he approaches coaching Messi.

Miami have now won four, lost once and drawn thrice and are on a seven-game unbeaten run going down 3-0 in their season opener to LAFC.
