Safety measures during field work in summer
In this intense summer season, even staying indoors becomes difficult, making field work outside even more challenging. Prolonged exposure to strong sunlight and hot winds can cause problems like dehydration, sunstroke and heat stroke. To avoid these, you can protect your health by adopting some simple but effective precautions.
People working in the field should be especially cautious. You can protect yourself from these dangers of heat by choosing the right clothes, regular hydration and taking breaks from time to time.
Choosing Safe Clothing
Wear loose-fitting clothes during field work so that air circulation is maintained. Also, choose clothes that cover the entire body, so that hands, legs and other parts can be protected from the sun. Wearing light colored clothes is more beneficial. Natural fabrics like cotton, linen or khadi are best suited as they absorb sweat and provide coolness to the body.
head and eye protection
Use a cap, hat, or stole to protect your head from direct sunlight. Wear good quality sunglasses to protect your eyes. Strong sunlight can cause dryness and redness in the eyes. Always carry an umbrella so that you can use it when needed.
take care of hydration
While doing field work in summer, drinking water alone is not enough. It is also necessary to compensate for the electrolytes lost from the body. Drink drinks containing coconut water, buttermilk, lemonade or chia seeds. Increase the intake of seasonal fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe and cucumber. Always keep a water bottle with you, but avoid drinking very cold water. Drink water only after staying away from the sun and resting for a few minutes.
Light and easily digestible food
Digestive problems occur quickly in summer. Therefore avoid heavy, fried and spicy food. Eat more water vegetables like bottle gourd, tinda, ridge gourd, cucumber, cucumber, tomato etc. Light and easily digestible food is the best option in this season.
Don’t forget to take short breaks
Do not work in the sun for several hours continuously. After some time, sit in a shady place and rest. This will prevent fatigue and weakness and will provide coolness to the body.
Don’t ignore the symptoms
If you suddenly feel overheated, sweat excessively, feel dizzy, have a headache or feel nauseous, stop work immediately. Sit in a cool place and drink water. Ignoring these symptoms can be dangerous.
