New Delhi: Bank holiday affect crores of people across the country. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules, all public and private banks in the country observe holiday on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, while every Sunday is a holiday. All commercial banks, cooperative banks, regional rural banks (RRBs), small finance banks, and local area banks follow this rule. Bank holidays are also determined by local festivals and special occasions in different states.
Banks will be closed in Karnataka on April 20th, 2026, for Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya. Banks in Tripura will observe a holiday on the occasion of Garia Puja. The banks in Tamil Nadu will observe a holiday on April 23 as voting for the TN Assembly election 2026 will be conducted. The first phase of West Bengal Election 2026 will also be held on 23 April and banks will remain closed in the areas where polling will be held.
Banks will be closed nationwide on April 25 and 26 for the fourth Saturday and Sunday. The normal banking operations will resume on April 27th. West Bengal Election 2026 second phase of voting will take place April 29. The banks falling in the constituencies going to polls will be closed in the respective areas.

However, digital banking services will run normal on holidays. Services like RTGS and NEFT, which are widely used to transfer money between banks, are operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Services like online banking, mobile banking, and UPI also remain operational on holidays. Customers are able to send money, pay bills, apply for loans, or request checkbooks via ATMs, mobile and internet banking. ATMs also remain open, allowing people to easily withdraw or deposit cash.
