New Delhi/Tehran: Tension has once again increased in West Asia. Iran has claimed that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed and with this decision a new diplomatic dispute has arisen between America and Iran. Meanwhile, the Iranian Embassy in South Africa launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump and even called him an “idiot” on social media, which has deepened the controversy.
The whole issue started after a viral audio clip, in which Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) allegedly used a term in maritime communications, was linked to Trump on social media. However, the Iranian Embassy rejected these claims and said that the comment was meant for the US President.
“You idiot, he was talking about your idiot President Trump,” the embassy wrote on
Big announcement on Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has announced that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz has been closed. This area is considered a major route for global oil supply.
According to the IRGC, this decision has been taken in response to alleged sanctions imposed by the US on Iranian ports. The organization has warned that all ships passing through the area will be closely monitored.
The IRGC has clearly stated that any ship that tries to pass through this route without permission will be considered an “enemy ally” and action can be taken against it. The organization also said that ships can pass through this area only with its permission.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transportation routes. Any disruption here could have a major impact on the global energy market and oil supply chain, raising concerns internationally.
Iran has accused America of increasing tensions through maritime blockade and sanctions. Iran says that this step has been taken after “violation of the terms of the ceasefire”.
