PBKS vs LSG Toss & Playing XI, IPL 2026: Lucknow Wins Toss and Opts to Bowl First in Match 29
Cricket Gully | April 19, 2026 11:40 PM CST

The 29th Match of Indian Premier League 2026 will witness Punjab Kings go head-to-head with Lucknow Super Giants at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Punjab Kings are coming off of quite the high and in superb form while Lucknow Super Giants will be battling for consistency, and this is where the difference can come in as the sides look to improve their position in the points table.

Punjab Kings have been arguably the most impressive side throughout the course of the first five games of the IPL 2026. They have been outstanding at chasing down targets and haven't looked back as they have faced totals of 200+ on numerous occasions. Skipper Shreyas Iyer has looked at the peak of his game in terms of leadership while chasing and this top 4 lineup includes aggressive openers in Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. The bottom 5 have all had the job done for them by this powerful top 4 that includes names such as Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh so far. As far as the bowlers go Arshdeep Singh has been back to his brilliant best for the King.

On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants have had a bumpy journey through their first 5 games so far and are coming off the back of a huge loss. They are still attempting to discover the perfect batting combination as not one single player in the batting line-up including heavyweights in Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran have scored a half century in the first 5 games. Nicholas Pooran has been an utter disaster. As always it has been the young players who have stood out so far for the Super Giants as Ayush Badoni has made great progress while Prince Yadav has shone in terms of his bowling attack.

At the toss, Lucknow have won and chose to bowl first.

Here's what the captains said at the toss:

Shreyas Iyer:

"(Do you mind batting first?) Not at all. I feel that it's a great challenge for us and going forward in the tournament, at least we'll have a fair idea about how to go in the first innings, since we haven't batted first so far. So it's a great challenge for the boys as well and as a collective team effort, it would be great challenge. (How do you refresh and maintain the same energy every game?) I had mentioned previously as well, I feel that you keep getting better every now and then... you challenge with yourself. It's about us versus us. It's not about who we are playing or the opponents we've got on the other side. But I personally feel that if we stay in the present, in the moment, and see to it that we embrace the opportunity, I think collectively we'll be coming out as triumphs. (Any areas to improve?) Yes, absolutely, a comprehensive win. We've played so many matches in the tournament, but still there is a moment that we haven't fulfilled yet. So it's important that this game would be the one where we go in all together, see to it that we put our best foot forward and have that comprehensive win as I mentioned. We're going with the same team."

Rishabh Pant:

"We are going to bowl first. Coming here, we want them to set a total for us. They've been one of the best team in the tournament, but at the same time, it gives us that freedom that we can play more freely with them. Generally, I feel, playing for 220 runs is better than playing for 200 sometimes. (Manimaran) Siddharth comes in and (Digvesh) Rathi misses out. (And that elbow is fine?) Much better (smiles)."
