A historic milestone was created by Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy during match 28 of IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. The mystery spinner is now the fastest Indian spinner to achieve 200 wickets in T20 cricket.
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals had a fantastic start and had an 81-run opening partnership in the making, and it was in Chakravarthy's first over that he broke the stand. He got the wicket of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who looked in sublime form having scored 46 off 28 balls. The right-arm spinner bowled a googly on a fuller length and the batter top-edged while trying to slog it, getting out at the wrong time.
Fastest Indian Spinner to 200 T20 Wickets
A special wicket it was. It was Chakravarthy's 200 th T20 wicket. The right-arm spinner reached the landmark in his 155th match, thus becoming the fastest Indian spinner to do so. He had beaten the record of Kuldeep Yadav, who had reached the landmark in 160 matches.
Despite being fastest among Indian spinners, Arshdeep Singh remains the fastest Indian bowler to reach the milestone. Arshdeep took 151 matches to reach the landmark.
Here is the comparison of top Indian bowlers:
| Player | Matches to 200 wickets |
| Arshdeep Singh | 151 |
| Varun Chakravarthy | 155 |
| Kuldeep Yadav | 160 |
| Jaydev Unadkat | 162 |
| Mohammed Shami | 165 |
Chakravarthy added another milestone record to his name.

Successful Comeback from Injury and Dip in Form
The season for the spinner, however has not been that easy. Chakravarthy has had a decent past few months in Cricket. Being among the successful in the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 with 14 wickets being jointly the highest, most of his wickets in that tournament came during the initial few matches and had some good to say but did struggle during the later stages.
Chakravarthy's form dipped during the start of the Indian Premier League 2026 and he ended up not getting any wicket in the first 3 matches. Chakravarthy also suffered an injury and missed out on quite a few games and ever since his return, he has got into rhythm by scalping 5 wickets in 2 games.
Earlier he achieved another massive milestone as in the previous game against Gujarat Titans, Chakravarthy picked his 100th wicket in IPL and became the first Indian bowler to pick 100 wickets for Kolkata Knight Riders. Chakravarthy is currently the 3rd highest wicket-taker for KKR with the highest wicket-taker for KKR being Sunil Narine with 214 wickets while second highest being Andre Russell with 124 wickets.
