On Sunday evening, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) won the toss and chose to field first against the undefeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
Venue Details
This exciting match is taking place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium located in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
LSG's Strategy
During the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant explained that their decision to bowl first was based on the pitch conditions and their strategy against a formidable opponent. He emphasized that chasing a total under lights provides his batters with more freedom. "We are going to bowl first. Coming here, we want them to set a total for us. They have been one of the best in the tournament, but at the same time, it gives us freedom to play as well. Playing for 220 runs is better than playing for 200. Rathi is out, Siddharth comes in," Pant stated.
PBKS's Approach
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, also speaking at the toss, confirmed that they are maintaining the same lineup. He remarked, "I feel it's a great challenge for us since we haven't batted first so far. I had mentioned that when you are getting better, it's about us vs us. A comprehensive win is what is needed to fulfil. Same team," Iyer noted.
