Liverpool have been dealt a fresh injury setback after Giorgi Mamardashvili was stretchered off following an injury sustained during Everton's equaliser in the Merseyside derby. The former Valencia goalkeeper was forced off the pitch after colliding with Andy Robertson and replaced by Freddie Woodman, who came on to make his Premier League debut.

A challenge involving a sliding Beto and Robertson left Mamardashvili unable to keep out the Toffees forward at Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Georgia international was spotted clutching his side as he received medical attention on the goal line before being stretchered off the field.

It represents yet another setback for Arne Slot as the Reds battle to secure their place in next season's Champions League. Mamardashvili had been the Dutchman's preferred choice between the sticks, with Alisson Becker sidelined and not anticipated to return until next month.

Liverpool had two goalkeeping options among their substitutes, with Slot having to choose between Woodman and Armin Pecsi. He opted to bring on Woodman for his first ever Premier League appearance and only his second outing for Liverpool after featuring in the 3-0 Carabao Cup loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield in October.

Introduced in the 59th minute, Woodman made his first Premier League appearance for the Reds, having last featured in the top flight for Newcastle United during the 2021/22 season. The goalkeeper joined Liverpool on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Preston North End, where he had spent three seasons in the Championship.

Liverpool had broken the deadlock on Merseyside on Sunday courtesy of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian delivered a stunning blow to the hosts as he netted in his final derby appearance, moments after the Toffees had a goal disallowed.

Iliman Ndiaye had sent Goodison Park into delirium before referee Chris Kavanagh was instructed by VAR to rule out the effort for offside. Jake O'Brien, who had provided the assist, was deemed to have been in an offside position during the build-up.

Everton were also dealt a further setback when Jarrad Branthwaite was stretchered off in the 87th minute, with the defender replaced by Michael Keane. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk scored the winner for the away team 11 minutes into stoppage time with a header from Dominik Szoboszlai's corner.
