The UK is set for a 22C scorcher early next month, the latest weather maps show. Maps from WXCharts.com say temperatures will rise on Saturday, May 2, with several parts of the UK basking in the sun.

The country will be in the sunshine from the north of Scotland to Cornwall with temperatures ranging from 14C to 22C. The warmest areas will include London, the east and south east of England, as well as the south west. Part of the north and the Midlands will also be warm, as well as Wales and Northern Ireland.

A Met Office forecast for the period including May 2 read: "High pressure is likely to be centred close to or across the UK through much of this period. So many places will be largely dry with clear or sunny periods."

The forecast, however, also added that sunny spells could then change to wintry conditions later on. "Colder air will try to push into the country from the north toward next weekend, but will probably only make limited progress into the northeast for a brief time, where it could bring a short-lived showery interlude, some of these wintry," the forecast said.

"Winds will be mostly light, but briefly stronger in the northeast as that colder air tries to come south. Temperatures will probably be near normal or slightly above for many, but with a risk of colder conditions affecting the north next weekend," the Met Office also added.

Temperatures, however, will also climb as high as 23C across parts of England and Wales before May 2. WXCharts maps, based on ECMWF data for April 29 from 6pm, suggest a huge swathe of the country could bask in temperatures above 20C as warmer air surges northwards at the end of this month.

During that period, the hottest conditions are expected across southern and eastern England, with parts of East Anglia, the South East and the Midlands potentially reaching 22C or 23C. Areas around London, Essex, Kent, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire appear likely to be among the warmest spots in the UK
