GT vs MI: Tilak-Ashwin made Mumbai comeback, defeated Gujarat by 99 runs

The 30th match of IPL 2026 proved to be a comeback match for Mumbai Indians (MI). This match was played against Gujarat Titans (GT) on 20 April at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this match, Mumbai bowlers performed brilliantly and all out the entire Gujarat team for just 100 runs. After this, Mumbai easily won the match by a huge margin of 99 runs. This is Mumbai Indians’ first win after four consecutive defeats. Tilak Verma and Ashwini Kumar performed brilliantly in this match.

 

By winning this match, Mumbai Indians (MI) have made a big leap in the points table. Before the match, the team was at number 10 but after winning by a big margin, now Mumbai has reached number 7. Mumbai has played 6 matches so far, out of which it has won 2 and lost 4. The net run rate of the team is +0.067. On the other hand, there has been a significant decline in the net run rate of Gujarat Titans. Gujarat has also registered 3 wins and 3 losses in 6 matches and is currently at sixth position in the points table. His net run rate has become -0.821.

 

Mumbai Indians innings

When Mumbai Indians came to bat first, the start was not good at all. The team lost 3 wickets in the powerplay itself and could score only 46 runs. After this, the team made a slight comeback in the middle overs but Gujarat bowlers kept the run rate under control. Between 7 and 15 overs, Mumbai lost only 1 wicket and added 76 runs. At the same time, as soon as the death over came, the Mumbai batsmen completely dominated and thrashed the Gujarat bowlers. In the last 5 overs i.e. between 16 and 20, Mumbai lost only 1 wicket and scored 77 runs. Due to this strong finish, Mumbai Indians scored a strong score of 199 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.

For Mumbai Indians, Tilak Verma batted brilliantly and scored an unbeaten 101 runs. Apart from him, Naman Dheer contributed 45 runs. None of the other batsmen could even cross the 15-run mark. Whereas for Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada took maximum 3 wickets. Apart from him, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna got 1-1 success.

 

Gujarat Titans innings

Gujarat Titans also had a very bad start like Mumbai. In the powerplay itself, the team scored only 3 runs after losing 3 wickets. Even after this the team could not recover and Mumbai bowlers completely dominated. Between 7 and 15 overs, Gujarat lost 5 wickets and could add only 54 runs. After this, the team could not play the death overs properly and could score only 1 run after losing 2 wickets in the 16th over itself. In the end, the entire team of Gujarat Titans was all out for 100 runs in 15.5 overs and Mumbai won the match easily by 99 runs.

 

No batsman from Gujarat Titans could touch the 30-run mark. Washington Sundar scored the highest score of 26 runs. Whereas Shahrukh Khan was out after scoring 17 runs. Captain Shubhman Gill could also score only 14 runs. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians bowlers performed brilliantly. Ashwini Kumar took maximum 4 wickets. AM Ghazanfar got 2 wickets. While Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya took 1 wicket each.
