As per latest reports, Ajit Agarkar led selection committee is likely to rest Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming Afghanistan series in India.

One off Test followed by 3 ODIs are scheduled for the India squad after completion of IPL 2026. Test will start on June 10th at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium which is all set to host its maiden Test match. ODIs will be played between June 14 to June 20.

A report states that both Gill and Bumrah could be left out of the Test match as part of a workload management exercise. IPL finals are scheduled on June 6, which provides very little time before the Test fixture.

Results of the Indian team recently has been quite inconsistent in Test cricket, while the white ball squad led by Suryakumar Yadav won Asia cup and T20 world cup, the Test team have been quite sluggish and ended the England Test series with a 2-2 draw, and had a 2-0 defeat in their home series against South Africa.

The Indian squad are currently standing at 6th position in World Test championship standing. Though this test is not part of WTC which has made the selectors go ahead with the resting idea of key players.

Both Gill and Bumrah are kept out of this series due to the fitness factor. These two players are vital for India's planning for 2027 ODI World cup.

Jasprit Bumrah has a history of back problems, whereas Shubman Gill has been suffering from a neck problem time and again. Thus these players need to stay fit and injury free as the schedule gets tough and it consists of the IPL along with international commitments.

Both the players would be playing the IPL season for their franchises, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians respectively, and are likely to avoid playing immediately after the grueling tournament in the red-ball format.

Further report says, that both Bumrah and Gill are likely to play in the ODI series for India and are important for India's next world cup cycle preparation as well. They are most likely to play a significant role in that setup as well.

For the test match, selectors would also try out some fresh faces as this can be a great opportunity for new talents to prove themselves in the Test arena.

The Indian squad has not been announced yet but based on these reports, it seems India is all set to take a cautious approach with two of its most vital players.
