Shubman Gill tags 99-run defeat against MI as "small hiccup" aims to focus on comings matches

After a hefty defeat of 99 runs against the Mumbai Indians, Shubman Gill claimed it to be a "small hiccup" in the way of the Gujarat Titans. Speaking in the post-match presentation, the GT captain acknowledged leaking a few runs in the middle. He assessed that the pitch in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad could have had around 170 runs at max, being a slower one. He even spoke about the bowling issues and about the batting massacre from his side. He said,

"Honestly, I think we gave away too many runs in the middle overs. On a wicket like that, 160-170 was a par score. Small hiccup but now we have a couple of games on the road so hopefully we'll come back in winning form. I think the wicket was on the slower side. I don't think we hit the right areas. Length balls, some were coming on nicely some weren't. We weren't able to hit that length more consistently. I think batting could have been better because there was dew."

Ashawani Kumar credits hardik Pandya for the fourfer.

Ashwani Kumar from MI has been the pick bowler from the side, taking four wickets and conceding just 24 runs. Speaking to the presenters, Ashwani revealed that Hardik Pandya, the MI captain, assisted him in planning and bowled as per the situation. Ashwani said,

"When we went on the ground I saw length balls would work best so just went for those. I planned with Hardik bhaiya and bowled as per what the situation demanded. I had been thinking for a while that whenever I get a game, I'll do well. It happened like that last year as well."

Hardik calls win much needed

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya reflected on Mumbai Indians' win over Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad, calling it “much needed” after a tough start to the season. He admitted that “it’s always challenging to go away and win,” especially at a venue where MI have struggled, but praised the team for “playing some good cricket.”

Highlighting Tilak Varma’s match-winning century, Hardik revealed his simple advice: “just watch the ball and hit the ball,” adding that it was “about time he came out and delivered.” On Jasprit Bumrah’s usage, he clarified it’s a collective tactical call, not an individual one.

He lauded the youngsters, especially Ashwani Kumar, and emphasized improved fielding, giving a “special mention to Naman.” Asked if this was a turning point, Hardik responded firmly: “Yes.”
