Sky News viewers raged it was "beyond embarrassing" as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband visibly squirmed his way through an interview with Sophy Ridge on the channel's breakfast show. As she grilled him about the scandal engulfing Keir Starmer over Peter Mandelson's appointment he looked downcast and fidgety. When she asked him if Starmer should lose his job he responded: "I dont think so, no" however those watching at home felt his body language spoke volumes about his true feelings towards his party leader.

Taking to X one shared: "Look at his body language during this interview. It speaks volumes . The longer Starmer stays, the more damaging it is for Labour." Another added: "If you're in trouble, don't send Ed to defend you. This is beyond embarrassing." A third chimed in: "Look at Miliband here..... unable to face the truth....the country cannot suffer this government a moment longer."

A fourth observed: "Even he's had enough." Meanwhile a fifth confessed: "I regret voting Ed in 2015."

Miliband looked deeply uncomfortable as Ridge probed him about the appointment of Mandelson. "My argument is it was rushed. My argument is that Keir Starmer knew this stuff before.

"We knew that Mandelson had been sacked twice. We knew he had a relationship with a convicted paedophile. We knew that he had a lobbying company with links to Chinese firms. We knew this stuff," she said.

Miliband responded: "So you're saying he [Mandelson] should never have been appointed?" When she answered in the affirmitive he said: "I agree with you."

She then listed off the roll call of people who have lost their jobs over the vetting scandal including Olly Robbins. "Should Starmer lose his job, because he's the one who made the error," she asked.

A stuttering Miliband answered: "I dont think so, no. Obviously, I don't. I think Prime Ministers make errors. Prime Ministers are fallible. Prime Ministers are human. "

But Miliband also pointed out that "I steered well clear of Peter Mandelson when I became Labour leader in 2010".

Asked what he thought when Lord Mandelson's appointment was announced, he said: "That it could blow up, that it could go wrong."
