Even amid Middle East tension, Indian ships are continuously coming from Hormuz. The government itself has given information regarding this. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told an inter-ministry press conference on Monday that a total of 10 Indian-flagged ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz since the beginning of the conflict between the US and Iran.

Among the Indian ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, the government is focusing on evacuating LPG tankers first in view of the acute shortage of cooking gas in the country. Many LPG tankers have found safe passage, but due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, there is still a shortage of cooking gas in India.

Another ship will arrive on 22 April

Desh Garima, an Indian-flagged crude oil tanker carrying 31 Indian sailors, safely transited the Strait of Hormuz on April 18. This ship is expected to reach Mumbai on 22 April. Meanwhile, India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia on 19 April. There he met with the country's top officials, including Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and National Security Advisor Dr. Musaad al-Aiban. Jaiswal said that these leaders discussed bilateral relations, situation in the region and other important issues.

Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said that amid the shortage of LPG in India, the government has given more than 4.93 lakh PNG connections since March 2026. He also told that more than 5.51 lakh people have registered for new connections. The average sale of auto LPG by government oil companies (OMCs) in the last one week was about 350 tonnes per day, whereas in February the average was 177 tonnes per day. According to the government, till April 19, about 39,200 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections.
