Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul is on the verge of becoming the sixth-highest run-scorer in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Karnataka star has a golden chance to surpass MS Dhoni on this prestigious list when he steps onto the field against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. Rahul has been in solid form during IPL 2026, racking up 168 runs from 5 matches with an average of 33.60, including two half-centuries.
So far, Rahul's journey in the tournament has been a bit of a rollercoaster. He started his IPL 2026 campaign with a couple of disappointing performances, but then he bounced back with a fantastic 92-run innings against the Gujarat Titans. Unfortunately, he stumbled again against CSK, managing just 18 runs. However, his 52-run effort against RCB in DC’s last match shows that he’s hitting his stride and just needs one more solid performance to move past MS Dhoni on the all-time run-getters list.
Having played 150 IPL matches, Rahul has accumulated 5390 runs. In contrast, MS Dhoni, who hasn’t played yet in IPL 2026 due to a calf strain, has 5439 runs from 278 matches. Among the top six run-scorers, MSD has played the most games.

For many players, finding stability is crucial for success. But that hasn’t been the case for KL Rahul. Over the years, he’s switched franchises and faced ups and downs in the batting order, which has made things challenging. Despite these hurdles, KL has managed to maintain a level of consistency in the IPL.
Rahul kicked off his IPL journey with RCB back in 2013, then spent a couple of seasons with SRH before returning to RCB in 2016. After that, he played four seasons with PBKS. In 2022, he joined LSG, right when the franchise was launched, and he led the team for three years. However, he was eventually released and picked up by DC. Since 2018, there’s only been one season where Rahul hasn’t scored over 500 runs in an IPL edition.
