Springtime on the Farm presenters were holding back tears in an emotional farewell when they collected their heavily pregnant horse from a babysitting farm. Cannon Hall Farm favourite, Ruby the Shire horse, has been staying at a farm in St Albans along with a Shetland pony.

On the first episode of the new series on Springtime on the Farm, farmers Rob Nicholson and Jules Hudson were seen driving to the farm in Hertfordshire. Knowing that Ruby has been babysitting a lonely Shetland pony over the summer, they were keen not to leave her on her own and have taken a new friend along in the shape of their own rock star Shetland, Jon Bon Pony.

But before the introductions, they had to take Ruby into the carriage. As they took Ruby away from the pasture, the Shetland pony raced side by side and galloped alongside Ruby.

"Look at them, despite the size difference, they have developed a bond of friendship," said Rob. "She's here to say goodbye to Ruby."

Having taken Ruby inside the carriage, the presenters were ready to introduce Jon Bon Pony, who is Cannon Hall Farm's very own rockstar pony who once gave love a bad name by impregnating five females in one weekend.

"Let's see if they hit it off?" Jules wondered. They positioned the two ponies facing back to back and released the harness at the same time.

Jon Bon Pony was kicked in the stomach as the other one tried to tell him 'this is my turf', according to Jules. Ruby the Shire horse was then taken back to South Yorkshire where the focus turned to her wellbeing as her due date approached.

The episode continues to show Rob and Dave Nicholson fitting a new enclosure in their farm to welcome two giant tortoises.

One viewer shared: "Loved Springtime on the Farm tonight. Finished too quickly, four nights is just not enough. A weekly programme would be brilliant."

Another added: "Absolutely loved tonight's programme, more of this feel-good TV please! Well done everyone, you all work so hard to look after the animals and each other."
