David Dhawan dismisses Salman Khan 'difficult' tag, says Govinda 'comes late but delivers': 'We are fire together'

Filmmaker David Dhawan has addressed the long-standing perception around working with Salman Khan , calling him an “excellent guy” and highlighting their strong professional equation. In a recent chat, Dhawan also weighed in on comparisons with Govinda .
‘He has never questioned me’Reacting to claims that Salman can be difficult to work with, David told Bollywood Hungama, “Everybody goes through this. Earlier too, people used to say a lot about Salman... even now they do. But he’s an excellent guy. I have worked with him the maximum... I’ve had the best journey with him.”
Speaking about their equation, he added, “He and I—we are fire together. We love to work.”
Recalling a recent interaction, David said, “I was shooting and he came to meet me and said, ‘Yaar, let’s do something right now.’ He’s always like that.”
Highlighting Salman’s trust, the filmmaker said, “He has never questioned me... he never even asks for a narration. He just says, ‘Let’s do this film.’”
He added, “I’ve done films with him where he is the hero, but another role may be better—and he never questioned it.”
‘If Salman works with you, he’ll do anything’Sharing an anecdote, David said, “My son once told me, ‘If Salman works with you, he’ll do anything for you.’ That’s true. Even after a film is finished, he will say, ‘Yaar, I didn’t get much in this... let’s do something.’”
He further added, “I can call him anytime and start shooting. He’s always there.”
Salman vs GovindaWeighing in on comparisons, David said, “Actors are different. Salman has a personality—you can’t match that. Even when he walks into a frame, there’s a charm.”
On Govinda, he added, “He’s a very fine actor. Give him any scene—even a weak one—and he will turn it into something special. That’s his calibre.”
On punctuality debateAddressing criticism, David said, “People say that, but he always finishes his work. So what if he comes late?”
He added, “When I needed him early, he came early. Otherwise, could we have made 17 films together?”
