Meghan Markle's latest attempt to win over Netflix bosses has been branded "annoying" by a royal insider.
The Duchess of Sussex's partnership with the streaming giant has hit rocky ground of late, following the underwhelming performance and widespread criticism of projects such as With Love, Meghan. The Netflix deal, once valued at up to $100million (£74m), concluded earlier this year, reportedly leaving Meghan and Prince Harry searching for fresh opportunities.
However, Meghan was spotted last week getting friendly with the Netflix chief and his wife at a gathering in California. It has since emerged that the Duchess has been consistently reaching out to CEO Ted Sarandos and his spouse Nicole Avant with personal tokens ranging from handwritten letters to flowers, and even jars of her As Ever jam. One insider revealed the strategy is failing to hit the mark and has, in fact, "become annoying".
The source said: "To some, it comes off as too much - and honestly, it's not working. If anything, it's becoming annoying. But Meghan believes it's necessary. In her mind, this is how you repair - and secure - a relationship."
The comments were made to royal journalist Rob Shuter, whose Substack page delves into Meghan's apparent resolve to win back the Netflix team. Another insider told the reporter: "It's constant - cards, gifts, deeply personal messages. She's making sure they feel valued, remembered, and appreciated." The mother-of-two was photographed alongside the company's chief executive at a gathering in Montecito. The images suggest the Duchess's relationship with the Netflix boss remains intact, despite the streaming platform no longer being connected to the As Ever lifestyle brand, and the CEO having unfollowed both Meghan and As Ever on Instagram.
In an official statement, Netflix said, "Meghan's passion for elevating everyday moments in beautiful yet simple ways inspired the creation of the As Ever brand, and we are glad to have played a role in bringing that vision to life. As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently."
The brand, which has gained recognition for its preserves, was established by the Duchess only last year, receiving financial backing from Netflix through an arrangement separate from her television content deal.
Last month it was reported that Meghan might be returning to acting, having appeared on screen since the age of 20. Meghan is most recognised for her performance in Suits, a legal drama series, where she portrayed Rachel Zane across seven seasons. She departed the show in 2018, the same year she wed Prince Harry and formally joined the British Royal Family.
