Mythological story related to Lord Parshuram
According to mythology and 'Brahmanda Purana', Vadakkunnathan temple was founded by Parashurama. It is said that Parashurama created the land of Kerala by praying to Varuna, the god of the sea. After this he invited Lord Shiva to reside on this land. It is believed that Lord Shiva himself appeared here and was established in the form of a divine Shivalinga, which is still the center of faith of the devotees.
