Tesla has launched its second product in India- the Model Y L. Priced at Rs 61.99 lakh, ex-showroom, it is a six-seater version of the Model Y. The official launch event is set to commence later today in Mumbai, but the prices are already LIVE on Tesla’s India website.

In the carmaker’s India portfolio, the Model Y L sits between the Model Y Premium RWD and the Model Y Premium Long Range RWD. The former has an ex-showroom price of Rs 59.89 lakh, while the latter sells at Rs 67.89 lakh, ex-showroom. Interestingly, the Model Y L comes with All Wheel Drive (AWD).

The pricing makes the Model Y L the most value-for-money Tesla currently on sale here. Early speculations had hinted at a possible price of Rs 70-ish lakhs. The company has, however, surprised us with the pricing. The Model Y L is brought as CBU imports from China.

The Model Y L is the long-wheelbase version of the EV. Interestingly, it hasn’t yet been introduced in the United States, but is already on sale in markets like China. In China, the Model Y L is priced at 339,000 yuan (approximately $49,600).

The most important highlight of this vehicle is the packaging- this is a six-seater. It comes with a comfort-centric 2+2+2 seating layout. The second row features individual captain seats with power-retractable inner armrests, power two-way folding, and heating functions.

The third row has 50:50 split-folding seats and comes with practical features such as USB Type-C ports, cupholders, and dedicated AC vents mounted on the C-pillar.

The EV measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height. Compared to the standard version, it is 186 mm longer and 44 mm taller, while width remains the same. The wheelbase has been extended to 3,040 mm, an increase of 150 mm, directly benefiting cabin space.

A key trade-off on the Chinese-spec is the ground clearance. The laden ground clearance drops by 16 mm to 122 mm, which could impact usability on Indian roads. Overall design remains familiar. Minor changes can be found in the roof design and at the rear. Plus.the Model Y L also gets exclusive 19-inch Machina 2.0 alloy wheels. It also gets a new Silver colour option.

A major improvement over the standard Model Y is in the cargo capacity. With the second and third rows folded, the Model Y L offers 2,539 litres of boot space, compared to 2,138 litres in the regular version. Also, both rows can be folded electronically via controls in the cargo area. The frunk can still accommodate 116 litres.

Tesla offers the Model Y L exclusively with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The website doesn’t mention the battery size, but claims the range to be 681 km (WLTP). This places it among the higher range EVs in its segment. This range is, in fact, more that what the Model Y LR variant claims.

The Tesla Model Y L can do the 0-100kph sprint in just 5 seconds- 0.6 seconds faster than the more expensive Model Y Long Range RWD version. The top speed here, stands at 201 kph. The Model Y L also comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) bi-directional charging and can be used to power electronic devices, appliances or even charge smaller EVs.
