When is Ganga Saptami 22nd or 23rd April?
The date of Ganga Saptami will start from 10.49 pm on 22nd April and will continue till 8.49 pm on 23rd April. However, according to Udayatithi, this festival will be celebrated on 23rd April. On this day, bathing in Ganga in Brahma Muhurta has special significance. Ganga Saptami is also known as Jhanvi Saptami.

Why was Ganga ji named Jhanvi?
According to the Puranas, when Mother Ganga descended on earth, the ashram of sage Jahnu was affected by her tremendous speed. Enraged, the sage captured Ganga in his Kamandal.
On the insistence of the gods and King Bhagiratha, the sage re-appeared to Ganga from his ear, after which Ganga came to be known as Jhanvi. Bathing in Ganga on this day purifies the mind, body and soul.

- Reach the ghat before or on time for sunrise
