Few dishes capture the heart of Indian comfort food quite like a plate of piping hot aloo paratha. This classic North Indian flatbread, stuffed with a spicy, mashed potato filling, is a breakfast favourite across households. Crispy on the outside and soft inside, aloo paratha, often served hot with gooey butter, chilled curd, lip-smacking pickle or even a cup of chai, melts in the mouth with every bite. But what makes it truly special is its versatility. Recently, food vlogger and chef Viraj Naik posted a video on Instagram, offering a peri peri spin to the delicious aloo paratha.

In the clip, Viraj Naik prepared a mouthwatering aloo paratha preparation with a simple sprinkle of peri peri masala mix. He called the final result ‘bold, spicy and totally addictive’, where the blend of the masala and mashed potatoes changes the flavour completely, turning it into a vibrant and ‘chatpata’ spread, perfect for modern-day cravings without compromising on the desi comfort.

First, Viraj Naik grated some cheese and paneer before mixing them into a bowl of boiled and mashed potatoes. Finely-chopped onions, diced green chillies, and some cilantro are then added to the mix, followed by a dash of peri peri masala, chaat masala, Kashmiri red chilli powder, salt as per taste and a squeeze of lime.

In the following step, Viraj Naik mixed all of the ingredients uniformly with a spatula and shifted his attention to making a dough for the paratha. After rolling it out on the board, he curved the edges so that the dough took an oval shape. Next, he gently put the potato and peri-peri mixture inside the oval dough and rolled it again properly.
