The test-prep industry for law hopefuls is blossoming into a rapidly growing and engaging market, coinciding with the acceleration of India's legal education framework. The demand for specialised coaching is rising due to a larger number of students from various cities participating in competitive exams like CLAT and AILET. In light of this, LPT is establishing itself where scale, technology, and mentorship converge, utilising hybrid approaches, AI analytics, and proactive student involvement to enhance results. In this conversation with Economic Times Digital, Anand Sharma, Director, Law Prep Tutorial, Delhi NCR, shares insights on market size and growth projections, LPT’s differentiated academic and monetisation strategy, and the rising importance of Delhi NCR as a key growth hub. Edited excerpts.
Economic Times (ET): India’s legal education segment is seeing rising traction within the test-prep industry. How large is the current addressable market for law entrance coaching in India, and what growth rates are you projecting over the next 3–5 years?
Anand Sharma (AS): The legal education segment is seeing a sharp rise with the advent of corporate law and diversification in the available fields, with exams such as CLAT, AILET, MHCET & LNAT-UK picking up pace.
We are projecting a CAGR of 8% to 10% over the next 3–5 years. This is driven by the increasing number of NLUs (National Law Universities) and the growing preference for 5-year integrated law programs over traditional 3-year degrees. With over 150,000 students now actively engaging in high-end law prep across India, the Total Addressable Market (TAM) is no longer confined to metro cities but is expanding rapidly into Tier-2 and Tier-3 regions.
ET: With increasing competition in specialised test prep for exams like CLAT and AILET, how does Law Prep Tutorial differentiate its academic model and monetisation strategy from both traditional coaching players and new-age edtech platforms?
AS: LPT has avoided the mass-content trap of new-age edtech and the "pure-lecture" fatigue of traditional players with focus on one-on-one mentorship and AI-based LMS leading the way of the change.
We have a hybrid ecosystem where, unlike pure edtech platforms that struggle with completion rates, LPT utilizes an AI-powered ecosystem to augment offline rigor. In the 2026 cycle, LPT delivered over 1,600 NLU selections, including AIR-1 in both CLAT and AILET. This isn't just about good teaching; it’s a data-driven system where student performance is analysed via predictive AI to fix gaps before the actual exam.
ET: Can you share insights into Law Prep Tutorial’s current revenue scale, key revenue streams (offline centres vs hybrid/online), and how unit economics have evolved as you expand across multiple cities?
AS: LPT's growth also reflects a healthy shift toward hybrid dominance. When it comes to revenue streams, offline centers in about 65 cities remain the primary revenue driver (about 60–70% of top-line) due to the exclusivity they get at our offline centres. For digital/hybrid, the growth rate is at about 25% YoY, providing high-margin scalability without the heavy capex of new physical centers.
When it comes to unit economics, as LPT expands into over 18 states, the cost of customer acquisition (CAC) has stabilized through brand word-of-mouth. The Lifetime Value (LTV) of a student has increased as they now offer early-foundation courses (starting as early as Class 10/11), effectively extending the revenue cycle per student.
ET: Delhi NCR has emerged as a key hub for law entrance preparation. What makes this region strategically important for your business, and what kind of growth, both in student enrollments and revenue, are you seeing from this market?
AS: Delhi NCR has emerged as a highly strategic hub for law entrance preparation, and for Law Prep Tutorial Delhi NCR, it represents a powerful convergence of opportunity, awareness, and growth.
The region boasts an unparalleled legal ecosystem, with over 1.5 lakh registered lawyers, the highest concentration of courts, including the Supreme Court, and numerous law offices. This makes law a highly visible and aspirational career choice for students. Additionally, NCR attracts a large influx of aspirants from across India, drawn by its intense and competitive academic environment, further strengthening its position as a premier preparation hub.
The presence of leading institutions such as NLU Delhi and Delhi University, along with several other universities offering diverse integrated programs like BBA LL.B, B.Com LL.B, and B.Tech LL.B, has broadened the appeal of legal education. Students from science, commerce, and technical backgrounds are increasingly entering the field, expanding the aspirant base. Moreover, being a major corporate and commercial centre, the NCR is a highly litigious region, increasing demand for skilled legal professionals across sectors.
For us, this ecosystem has translated into remarkable growth. Over the past three years, our student enrolments have doubled each year, driven by our strong pedagogy and the niche created through our “for NLUs, by NLUites” approach. This growth is reflected in our steadily increasing revenue and consistent production of top-ranking students.
Delhi NCR, therefore, is not just a market; it is a key growth engine shaping our expansion and success.
ET: Beyond CLAT and AILET preparation, what new business opportunities, such as international law entrance exams, early-stage student engagement, or adjacent legal education services, are you exploring to drive the next phase of growth?
AS: At Law Prep Tutorial Delhi NCR, while CLAT and AILET preparation remain our core, our next phase of growth is firmly anchored in diversification, early engagement, and global orientation.
One of our key focus areas is early-stage student engagement. We are actively expanding our foundation programs for students as early as Grades 9–10, aimed at building critical thinking, legal aptitude, and reading skills well before they formally enter the competitive cycle. This not only strengthens outcomes but also creates a long-term mentorship ecosystem for students and parents.
We are also exploring opportunities in international law entrance preparation. With increasing student interest in pursuing legal education abroad, particularly in jurisdictions like the UK and Singapore, we are developing specialized modules for exams such as LNAT, LSAT and other university-specific assessments. This allows us to cater to a more globally mobile student base and position ourselves beyond domestic entrances.
In addition, we also aim to sensitize, train and mentor school students and teachers on rampant legal issues under the 'LPT - Empower'- program.
This includes curated legal awareness workshops, discussions, moot courts, and quizzes in areas such as constitutional law, POCSO, POSH, as well as other laws beneficial for school students, teachers, as well as the management.
We are also focusing on test-prep ecosystems-advanced test series, analytics-driven performance tracking, and hybrid learning models, to enhance student outcomes.
Another promising avenue is career counselling and pathway support. From helping students choose the right law schools to guiding them on internships and specializations, we aim to become a comprehensive partner in their legal journey, not just an entrance coaching institute.
Together, these initiatives are enabling us to transition from a test-prep institute to a holistic legal education brand, driving sustainable growth and deeper student engagement in the years ahead.
