Kris Srikkanth on Rohit Sharma: Former player of the Indian cricket team and an important member of the 1983 ODI World Cup champion team, Krishnamachari Srikkanth has made a big revelation about former Indian captain and star batsman Rohit Sharma. These days, Rohit Sharma is seen playing for Mumbai Indians in the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). Meanwhile, a big revelation regarding him has been made by the veteran cricketer. Let us know what Srikanth has said about Rohit.

While talking in a personal podcast, Srikanth has told why Rohit Sharma was dropped from the squad of ODI World Cup 2011. He has spoken about this with truth. Sri Lanka has openly told about this because in 2011 he was the selector of the Indian cricket team. It was he who did not give place to Rohit Sharma in the World Cup squad. Now he has given clarification on this entire matter.

Why was Rohit Sharma out of 2011 World Cup?

Sri Lanka said, ‘I feel bad for him even today. I told Rohit last year, sorry boss. This is not on purpose, we just want to get those half all-rounders. Our thinking was similar to the 1983 World Cup and who was the player of the tournament in the end? Yuvraj Singh, with ball and bat. In some matches, Sehwag, Sachin and Suresh Raina might have bowled some overs.
He further said, ‘Yusuf Pathan is also a half all-rounder. So unfortunately in all these things, he had to be out because of what happened. This half all-rounder concept was given to Rohit Sharma. Poor guy, he couldn’t find a place. He was actually good enough to play in the 2011 World Cup but the poor guy missed out.

Who was responsible for Rohit Sharma’s ouster?

The reason for excluding Rohit Sharma from the 2011 ODI World Cup squad was to give opportunity to more and more all-rounders in the team, who could prove useful for the team with both ball and bat. In such a situation, Yusuf Pathan was placed above Rohit Sharma. Yusuf Pathan got to play a lot of matches in the T20 World Cup 2011. He performed brilliantly for the team in the league matches. After this, Suresh Raina was given a chance in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. In these matches, Raina also performed brilliantly with both ball and bat.

India became champion in 2011 ODI World Cup

Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India won Sri Lanka by 6 wickets with 10 balls remaining while chasing the target of 275 runs at Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. In this match, Mahela Jayawardene played an inning of 103 runs for Sri Lanka, while for India, Gautam Gambhir played an inning of 97 runs and MS Dhoni played an inning of 91 runs and gave Team India the ODI World Cup crown for the second time.
