A year after the tragic terror attack, a heavy silence now surrounds Pahalgam—a place once celebrated for its breathtaking beauty and frequent Bollywood shoots. The valley, often called “Mini Switzerland,” was not just a tourist hotspot but also a favorite filming destination for decades. However, the attack changed more than just the security landscape; it deeply impacted the region’s film activity and overall atmosphere.
In the past, films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Betaab showcased the charm of Pahalgam’s lush valleys, making it synonymous with romance on screen. But after the attack—claimed by The Resistance Front—the situation shifted dramatically. Over 40 tourist spots in and around the region were temporarily shut down due to heightened security concerns, and film shoots came to an abrupt halt.
For months, the valley saw almost no major film activity, as fear and uncertainty kept production houses away. It wasn’t until late 2025 that the first signs of recovery appeared. A Telugu film titled “Anuma Pakshi” became one of the first projects to resume shooting in areas like Chandanwadi and Betaab Valley, nearly six months after the incident. Soon after, another Telugu project by director Vimal Krishna was filmed in Pahalgam and nearby Srinagar, signaling a cautious return of filmmakers to the region.
However, Bollywood has remained largely hesitant. Several planned shoots were either postponed or shifted to safer locations. For instance, Akshay Kumar’s film Welcome to the Jungle reportedly changed its shooting location despite initial plans for Kashmir. Similarly, Dharma Productions moved its horror project Pashaan to Kupwara instead of filming in Pahalgam.
Interestingly, Emraan Hashmi’s film Ground Zero had portions shot in Kashmir just before the attack, with some filming continuing afterward under tight security. The actor later acknowledged the support and warmth of local residents despite the tense environment.
Today, while Pahalgam remains as visually stunning as ever, the energy has shifted. Film crews are slowly returning, but with caution. The valley that once echoed with film cameras and romantic songs is still recovering, balancing its natural beauty with a renewed focus on safety and stability.
