A former Premier League footballer is facing a driving ban after allegedly speeding his Lamborghini on the Birmingham ring road. Michail Antonio was summonsed to appear at the city's magistrates' court today - Wednesday, April 22.

The ex-West Ham United star, aged 36, had been charged with exceeding the 40mph speed limit on Leebank Middleway and Belgrave Middleway on March 1 last year, and then failing to provide information regarding the identity of the driver.

The former offence was said to have occurred just two-and-a-half months after Mr Antonio suffered a devastating car crash in Epping Forest, between Greater London and Essex, in December 2024, in which he broke his leg.

The footballer, who has since departed West Ham and now plies his trade in Qatar, failed to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning or send a legal representative in his place.

Prosecutor Lucy Allen confirmed 'no evidence' would be offered on the speeding charge but applied for a trial to proceed in Mr Antonio's absence on the notification count.

She stated that on April 4 last year he had been required by police to provide information concerning the identity of the driver of the Lamborghini registered in his name, which was suspected of being involved in an offence.

Ms Allen added that at 2.07am on March 1 that year, cameras on the Birmingham ring road had recorded the vehicle travelling at an average speed of 50mph, in an area where the limit is 40mph.

The prosecutor informed the court that correspondence had been dispatched to Mr Antonio's address at Ledborough Gate, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

The Chair of the Bench stated: "We are satisfied the prosecution case has been made out.

"Unfortunately Mr Antonio is not here today so the court have got no details in regard to his income. We are fixed with the default position."

At that point, the court clerk intervened, revealing that Mr Antonio already held six penalty points on his licence for driving without insurance on December 7, 2024 - the date of his high-profile car crash.

She confirmed that his latest conviction meant he now faces a driving ban under the totting up procedure.

The case was subsequently adjourned, with sentencing scheduled to take place at the same court on June 19.
