One of the emerging talents from India, Ayush Mhatre, has finally broken the silence after having been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. The teenager, who plays for the Chennai Super Kings, injured his hamstring while playing against SRH which ultimately cut short his IPL campaign.
Mhatre had shown some brilliant form before getting injured. In fact, he scored 201 runs in only six innings, with a striking rate exceeding 177 runs per 100 balls. Among his other performances, a special mention must be made about a spectacular fifty off 36 balls in a match against the Delhi Capitals and 73 runs off 43 balls in another encounter versus the Punjab Kings.
After being forced to end his participation in the IPL 2026, Mhatre took to Instagram to express his feelings. He mentioned that he felt sad not to be able to take part in the rest of the tournament, but assured his fans he would work hard to return even better next time.
On Instagram, Mhatre wrote:
"Disappointed to not be able to contribute to @chennaiipl anymore in IPL 2026, but promise to come back stronger. Wishing the team all the best for the rest of the season. Thanks for all the yellove and support."

Mhatre's Injury: A Shot to CSK's Middle Order and the Road Ahead
The injury was sustained during CSK's fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad which was held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium on 18 th of April. He managed to score 30 of 13 balls in that match, but was seen to be in discomfort during his inning. It was later diagnosed that he had suffered a torn left hamstring.
Prior to the injury, Mhatre was in at number 3 for CSK, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson opening the innings, his absence creates a gap in the middle order and young Indian player Urvil Patel is expected to get an opportunity in the playing eleven as replacement.
Mhatre also grabbed headlines early this season when he became the first player to be retired out in the IPL 2026 in a fixture against Delhi Capitals at MA Chidambaram Stadium, though he scored a quickfire half century, bigger hitters like Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis were brought on for a good finish.
The young talent also displayed a good performance in the IPL 2025, scoring 240 runs in seven matches at an SR of nearly 189, with his highest score of 94 being against RCB. He has also been part of Indian youth setup and often paired with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi playing along with him for matches and captaining the team when he is available.
CSK will now look to take the field without one of their exciting young talents and fans will have to wait until the next season to see the player in action.
