New Delhi: Mohammed Shami breathed fire with the ball to help the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) get off to a strong start in their clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday, April 22. Shami dismissed RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and no.3 Dhruv Jurel on consecutive deliveries to dismantle RR’s top order.

The dismissals took place in the 3rd over of RR’s innings as Shami returned for his second after conceding only 7 runs off his first over. The LSG pacer was hit for a hat-trick of fours by Jaiswal before having the last laugh by getting rid of the RR opener cheaply on 22 off 12 balls.

Jaiswal was looking in impeccable touch and going all guns blazing against the senior Indian pacer, but his brief onslaught was cut short by Shami on the penultimate delivery of his second over. Rishabh Pant plucked a stunner behind the stumps after Jaiswal edged a bouncer from the pacer to help Shami get his first wicket in the game.

But Shami didn’t stop there as he got rid of Jurel on a Golden Duck on the next delivery. He produced another unplayable delivery, which saw Jurel edge it to the keeper to get sent back on a Golden Duck. Shami made it two wickets in two balls to reduce RR to 32/2 in the third over.

Shami failed to complete his hat-trick in his next over, but managed to inflict enough damage on RR to contain the visitors from going big in the Powerplay at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. After Shami’s twin strikes, LSG pacer Mohsin Khan piled more misery on the visitors by dismissing young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cheaply in the 4th over.

Sooryavanshi, who didn’t look at his usual attack best, was dismissed on 8 off 11 by Mohsin after getting caught by Digvesh Rathi following a miscued hit. Sooryavanshi’s early departure left RR reeling on 32/2 inside four overs in the Powerplay, compounding their woes after Jaiswal and Jurel’s dismissals on successive deliveries.

Mohammed Shami’s impressive numbers in IPL 2026

Senior Indian pacer Shami has been enjoying an impressive run in the IPL 2026 and has been one of LSG’s best bowlers so far this season. Shami has consistently bowled well and picked up wickets regularly with the new ball for LSG. He has so far bagged seven wickets in seven matches this season and is LSG’s second-highest wicket-taker behind Prince Yadav, who has scalped 12 wickets in the IPL 2026.
