Sarah Ferguson is reportedly "in high spirits" as a friend of the royal, known widely as Fergie, reveals her purported feelings after months in hiding. The 66-year-old had previously last been publicly seen at the late Duchess of Kent's funeral in September 16, 2025, but was spotted last week getting out of a blacked-out car in Austria.
She is thought to have been in hiding for more than 200 days, with the reason said to be due to wanting to protect her daughters and grandchildren. Sarah has faced scrutiny tied to her past association with the billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
According to her cousin-by-marriage, Martin Barrantes, Sarah's decision to stay out of the spotlight is because she wants to protect her family.
Martin, who said he spoke with Sarah "around three months ago", is the first family member to publicly explain her current approach to the situation.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "Sarah is going through a difficult moment, and I wanted to send her our support; she is a valued member of our family."
He added that she appeared to be in "good spirits", despite the pressure surrounding the Epstein-related controversy.
His brother, Raphael Barrantes, who echoed Martin's comments, told the publication that Sarah "loves her children more than anything and will do anything for them".
A source also told PEOPLE that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are keen on shielding their children from the controversy surrounding their grandparents.
Eugenie shares two sons with her husband Jack Brooksbank, five-year-old August and two-year-old Ernest.
Much like her sister, Beatrice is also a mum of two. As well as being a stepmother to nine-year-old Wolfie, Beatrice shares two daughters - Sienna, four, and one-year-old Athena - with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
