New Delhi: The 22-year-old daughter of a senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer was found murdered at her home in Delhi’s Amar Colony early on Wednesday.
Her parents were out for a walk when the crime was committed, the police said. The couple returned home to find their daughter dead and raised the alarm.
The police suspect the involvement of a former house help in the case, as reported by The Times of India.
The young woman was strangled to death, likely with a mobile phone charging cable found at the scene, the police said. The suspect is absconding.
Preliminary inquiry suggests that the woman was sexually assaulted before being murdered, as reported by NDTV. However, only an autopsy will confirm this, an official said.
“It is suspected that the house help entered the residence and killed the woman. He was recently removed from his job,” the official added.
Forensics experts have collected samples from the spot and the body has been sent for an autopsy. Details about the suspect have been collected from the parents and locals are being questioned, the police said.
Dedicated police teams have been formed to apprehend the suspect, and officers are currently scanning CCTV footage from across Amar Colony to track the individual’s escape route.
