Nita Ambani attended the TIME100 Summit in New York wearing a handwoven Jamdani saree titled Tribal Lore by Swadesh , underscoring her continued emphasis on Indian textile traditions at global forums.
Ambani has often been seen choosing ensembles that highlight the work of Indian artisans and reflect the country’s diverse craftsmanship. Her appearance at the summit aligned with this approach, bringing focus to Bengal’s weaving heritage.
The saree was crafted over 24 months by Padma Shri awardee Biren Kumar Basak in Phulia, West Bengal. Created using the traditional Meenakari Jamdani technique, it incorporates tribal motifs, figurative elements and auspicious fish borders, executed with fine precision.
The pallu features a narrative-style composition with ceremonial and natural motifs, while the body is structured with soft pastel tones and intricate patterns.
The recurring fish motifs, traditionally associated with prosperity, are woven across the drape. The ensemble reflects a convergence of traditional craftsmanship and textile storytelling, positioning Indian handloom on an international stage.
