RCB won their maiden IPL title in 2025 and now are strong contenders to retain it. In IPL 2026, they are right now 3rd with eight games left to play. They are well on course to finish in the top four after which they will have a shot at the title. A large part of their success can be attributed to their skipper Rajat Patidar, the very man who led them to the title last year.

Patidar has openly admitted that he learned a lot by observing Virat Kohli. He follows the mantra of the ‘King’ of staying in the present. He said that RCB’s mindset was one of dominance and every player is important in the team.

“I have learnt a lot by observing players like Virat bhai. The biggest thing is to stay in the present and focus only on what is in your control. Whether it is a senior player or someone new, everyone should feel equally important. That helps them settle and perform better," he said as per a report in Hindustan Times.

“As champions, every team will come harder at us. But for us, it is about staying in the present, focusing on our process, and controlling what we can,” he added.

What’s Next for RCB?

RCB’s next game is vs GT on April 24. Their last match vs DC on April 18 saw them lose by six wickets with just one ball in hand. RCB will look to avoid any more hiccups as we enter the 2nd half of IPL 2026.

On a personal note, it’s been a great IPL 2026 for Patidar with 230 runs in six innings at an average of 46 and strike rate of 212.96. At the moment, all 10 teams have a shot at the Playoffs with all four spots available. By May 24 we shall know the top four. On May 31 we will find out who the winners are.
