US President Donald Trump has ignited fresh controversy after reposting a four-page transcript along with a podcast by American political commentator Michael Savage on his Truth Social platform. The post has drawn widespread attention for its sharp criticism of immigration policies and references to countries including India and China.
The reposted content, originally part of Savage’s podcast, contained several controversial statements, including references to India and China as “hellhole[s] on the planet.” These remarks were made by Savage in the transcript shared by Trump, not by the US President himself.
In the shared content, Savage criticised birthright citizenship and immigration trends, alleging misuse of the system by foreign nationals. Referring to India and China, he claimed that people were travelling to the United States “to drop a baby on our shores” and later bring “the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet.”
Savage also expressed frustration over arguments before the US Supreme Court on birthright citizenship, saying he was “somewhat incensed” and that “all I heard was legalese being bandied back and forth.” He argued that the issue extends beyond legal frameworks, stating, “these arguments should not be conducted in the abstract of a courtroom… this is really not about law. This is about public opinion.”
The podcast further included criticism of civil liberties organisations, with Savage alleging that “the ACLU is the head of the snake… trying to turn America into a cesspool,” and accusing its lawyers of attempting to “flood America with ‘illegal aliens’ to change the demographics forever.”
Questioning the relevance of constitutional provisions in the modern era, Savage said, “The Constitution was written before air travel… before television, before the internet,” adding that changing migration patterns have altered the context of citizenship laws. Referring to birth tourism, he claimed, “people are coming here by airplane in the ninth month of their pregnancy. A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in.”
He further argued that assimilation trends had shifted, stating, “the idea of the melting pot is long over… we’ve gone from the melting pot to the chamber pot,” and claimed that “there’s almost no loyalty to this country amongst the immigrant class coming in today.”
Calling for a public vote, Savage said, “birthright citizenship should be subjected to a national vote. Not put in the hands of lawyers. Let the citizens decide,” citing informal social media polling.
The transcript also included contentious remarks about immigration from Asia. Savage claimed that “our nation is being overrun with Chinese coming here just to drop a baby,” and added, “ACLU Attorney Wang is pushing to destroy our national identity, turn us into a colony of China, but it's not limited to China, it's also India.”
He further alleged misuse of the system, stating, “They're also abusing it. I used to be a great supporter of Indians in India until I opened my eyes up to what's going on here.”
On employment trends, particularly in California’s technology sector, Savage asserted, “White men need not apply to jobs in the state of California… you’re not getting a job at High Tech in California,” adding, “your chances are nil. You have to be from India or China because almost all the internal mechanisms are set up to be run by Indians and Chinese.”
The podcast also expanded into criticism of public services, especially healthcare, where Savage alleged misuse by undocumented immigrants, saying, “they’re milking the system dry… if one of them gets a runny nose, 15 of them come in,” and questioned rising costs, adding, “who do you think is paying for the illegal aliens? You are.”
He concluded with a warning about the country’s future, urging action “before there’s nothing left of this nation to save.”
Trump’s decision to repost the content has drawn significant attention, with observers interpreting it as a signal of endorsement of the sentiments expressed in Savage’s podcast. While the remarks originate from Savage, the US President’s move to share them on his official platform is being seen by many as aligning himself with those views.
